Main image: Superstition Mts. near Pheonix, Az. Winter rains at the right times and in the right amounts will produce a profusion of spring wildflowers that have been waiting years for the right conditions to emerge. Fields of California poppies, lupine, and owl clover carpet areas of the desert and surround the otherwise lonely cactus for a short time in March. No filters were used to capture this scene, but by capturing the poppies in their true color, the film rendered the sky as dark as the lupines in the scene. I returned the sky to its original color by computer manipulation. Bottom left to right; Devils kitchen, Escalante Nat. Mon; Agave plant, Arizona; Desert paintbrush; Ocotillo cactus; Colorado Plateau.
