# 114 - Fiery aspens: San Juan Mountains - Silverton, Colorado
Under certain conditions in some years, aspen trees do turn red. While there are many theories, no one knows why for sure. In most other years this same stand will be the normal gold color. I drove by this scene in late afternoon and was so impressed by it that I came back 20 miles to photograph it the following morning when I knew the light would be better. Who says the Rockies don’t have red?
