Scrub oak turns brilliant hues of red and competes for attention with that famous Colorado blue sky and the new blanket of snow left on the distant peaks. Winter is chasing the warm autumn colors. A late August rain caused the aspens to delay their fall splendor, allowing the oaks the unusual opportunity for uncontested bragging rights. The aspens in this year turned yellow a full month later than usual, risking successfully this time, winters wrath.
