#67 - Old Faithful and Orion
I have gone to Yellowstone Park in the winter on four different occasions to experience its quietness and spectacular winter scenery. I waited for three nights for this scene to unfold before all the elements came together for me. This is a one minute time exposure of Old Faithful in eruption. To the left is Old Faithful Lodge and just above it is the constellation Orion. The two upper stars represent the warriors arms. The bottom two, his legs. The three stars in the middle are Orion's belt from which hangs his sword represented by the two faint stars below and left. The stars appear to be slightly elongated because of the rotation of the earth during the exposure and would have streaked even more except for the use of a 20mm lens. No filters or flash were used. The glittering snow in the foreground is illuminated only by the light of the full moon..
